CE marking for software

What the mark means, who affixes it, and how software carries it.

The manufacturer uses the CE marking to indicate conformity with the Annex I essential requirements (Article 3(31)), and it sits alongside the EU declaration of conformity F-021. It is affixed visibly, legibly and indelibly to the product, or where that is not possible to the packaging and the declaration of conformity; for software, it goes on the declaration of conformity or on the website accompanying the product F-027. The manufacturer affixes it once conformity has been demonstrated (Article 13(12)); where a notified body takes part through full quality assurance, the body's identification number follows the marking (Article 30(4)).
